Questions and Answers

Q - How are you different from other similar type services such as ISM'S Research on Demand?

A - Our clients tell us that we are different from traditional providers in that our unique research methodologies enable us to consistently and accurately identify trends well in advance of our contemporaries.

An example of this is the May 2007 report that was prepared by ISM, CAPS and AT Kearney. Titled Succeeding in a Dynamic World: Supply Management in the Decade Ahead the report made the following observation:

"In the next decade the center-led organization will continue to dominate, but changing conditions will require modifying organizational structure and relationships. Organizations will need to balance the advantages of centralized coordination with the need for local responsiveness. Some supply management organizations will shift authority and leadership to local business units . . . other organizations will shift authority and responsibility back to strategic business units as the pressure on commodity prices attenuate."

In the fall of 2004, we had already predicted this trend in a series of publications including our academically acclaimed paper Acres of Diamonds: The Value of Effectively Manageing Low-Dollar, High Transactional Volume Spend. The excerpt to which we are referring is as follows:

"It is my position that a true centralization of procurement objectives requires a decentralized architecture that is based on the real-world operating attributes of all transactional stakeholders starting at the local or regional level. In other words, your organization gains control of it's spend environment by relinquishing centralized functional control in favor of operational efficiencies on the front lines. This is the cornerstone of agent-based modeling."

So while the ISM, CAPS and AT Kearney report is just now beginning to acknowledge the emergence of this trend from a conceptual level, our 3 year lead time has enabled us to better prepare our clients and thus save them substantial sums of time and money.
